Overview of the Position

Based in Simsbury, CT, this role will report directly to the Senior Vice President of Hartford Life Human Resources and will be responsible for human capital strategic business partnership for the Individual Markets Group including the Retail, Individual Life, and Hartford Life Distributors (HLD) organizations. This is a highly visible, high impact position where the successful candidate will have the opportunity to affect significant positive change and partner with the business to ensure that its human capital initiatives are designed to support the business strategy, driving the organization to increased effectiveness.

 

As a leader in the Life HR community, the incumbent is a partner in decisions which affect the HR community and the businesses they support. This role is also responsible for partnering effectively with the HR Centers of Excellence (COE) resources dedicated to supporting the Individual Markets Group.

 

Responsibilities

* Strategy and Organizational Effectiveness

This position partners closely with the EVP, Individual Markets and his leadership team during the strategy formulation process to diagnose the organizational, cultural and talent implications of the organization’s business strategy. As an outcome of the strategic process, the Vice President is responsible for partnering with the business leaders to formulate appropriate talent and organizational strategies to support the achievement of the business goals.

* Leadership Effectiveness

Develops effective leadership within the organization, focusing on leadership needs and key themes identified as part of the business strategy and organizational and talent review processes. Initiatives include working with leaders to create their leadership agenda, developing a highly effective leadership team, on-boarding newly hired or promoted senior leaders and developing bench strength for succession and talent management.

* HR Functional Leadership

As a leader within the HR community, the Vice President is responsible for supporting, advocating and promoting the principles, values and behaviors of a world class HR organization. HR leadership responsibilities include supporting HR initiatives, sharing successes and failures and developing HR talent bench strength.

 

 

Manages a team of five generalists. Provides leadership and consulting support to business unit management on matters of goal setting, policy development, and strategic implementation in support of achieving corporate objectives and business growth, as well as on the human capital strategies necessary for them to achieve their goals and objectives.

* Employee Resource Management

As a member of the Individual Markets senior leadership team, partners with business leaders to create a high performing organization through a focus on employee engagement, management of performance and team effectiveness. The Vice President is also responsible for ensuring that the organization has the appropriate mix of talent to meet current and future business or functional needs.

* HR Systems Effectiveness

With their COE partners, responsible for the successful application and implementation of the processes, frameworks and tools in support of the business needs in the areas of staffing, career and leadership development, compensation, performance management, employee development and talent management. The Vice President also works with Center of Excellence leaders and system designers to continuously improve our systems and tools to meet future business needs.

 

 

Qualifications

Candidate Profile

*  Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degree preferred

*  A minimum of 15 years related experience with a record of leading human resource organizations to further business strategies and create competitive advantage within an environment known for exemplary human resource practices

*  Experience changing and transforming business; experience working with senior teams to develop and drive a strategic business agenda, ensuring the related human resource initiatives are in full alignment

*  Proven experience and depth in talent management and talent development

*  Knowledge of organizational development techniques and performance management

*  Experience leading organizations through change management

*  Experience and credibility as a leader in an environment where the ability to influence and build relationships is critical

*  Demonstrated ability to provide practical, solution-driven initiatives and human resource processes that are perceived as quickly adding value to the business

*  Credibility as a trusted advisor, confidant and executive coach to senior management

New Product Development Specifically Food & Beverage

Responsibilities:

* Manage all quality activities as it relates to contract packagers/manufacturers

* Develop and maintain database of all finished good specifications

* Liaison with supply chain functions, R&D and engineering in support of new product development

* Manage new product launches with co-packers and monitoring of co-packers' compliance with internal processes and standards

* Review quality programs at all 3rd party co-packers to ensure that said programs adhere to company requirements

* Develop, implement, and maintain quality control procedures for Company's manufacturing facility

* Develop programs for raw material inspections and finished good inspections

* Run all facets of quality control department

* Create monthly reports detailing quality issues at all locations and establish methodology for improving and tracking performance

 

Qualifications:

* At least 5 years relevant experience with Food/Beverage company

* Experience with 3rd party auditors, such AIB, ASI, and Silliker

* Familiarity with GMP's, HACCP, Allergens, SSOP

* Understanding of full complement of Q.C. procedures

* Experience with contract manufacturing/packaging

* Willing to travel 25-50%

* Food Science Degree or background

Witt/Kieffer has been retained by Hartford Healthcare Corporation (HHCC) in Hartford, Connecticut to assist in the recruitment of a new Senior Vice President of Human Resources. HHCC is one of the nation's premier health delivery systems and finest community teaching hospitals. HHCC operates a network of healthcare organizations including Hartford Hospital (HH), an 819 bed major community teaching hospital and generates system-wide revenues in excess of $1 billion. The hospital has received multiple recognitions for excellence including "Top 100" hospital status and nursing's most prestigious award, Magnet designation. The next SVP of HR will have resources to develop a contemporary human resources function to support the organizational goals of the hospital and system. In multiple ways, the next SVP of HR can build upon the human capital strengths of the system and hospital to develop new and innovative product and service offerings, and work collaboratively with leadership to support new people initiatives. The SVP role is strongly oriented towards establishing a consultative, proactive business partner role with the hospital COO and system CEO.

The ideal candidate will be a contemporary human resources executive with experience in all phases of human resources management. We seek an innovative, progressive thinker who values people as assets and is highly skilled at developing comprehensive compensation and benefits plans as well as employee development programs. The next SVP will embrace service excellence and be committed to progressive human resources practices. This person will be an approachable "people person" who has a track record of building and maintaining positive working relationships and developing strategic workforce development plans. A Master's degree in Business, Health Administration, Industrial Relations, Organizational Development, or relevant discipline is preferred. Experience in the healthcare industry is a plus, but candidates outside of the industry are welcome to apply.
