The Company
Our client is a profitable manufacturer and marketer of
products
to the automotive aftermarket and the original equipment
market
with revenue in the range between $100 and $200 million.
They
operate from more than four plants located in the
serving a wide variety of customers with over 15,000
discrete
items. They are located near an attractive city in the
Midwestern
The Company recently underwent a rationalization of its
business
that drove changes to the customer mix, product portfolio
and
number of plants. Accompanying these changes was the
recruitment of a new chief executive and board of directors
that
are tasked with continuing to improve the performance of
this
company for its private equity owners.
While the Company's EBITDA is strong - between 15% and 20%
- there is more work to be done to create a lean, focused
enterprise
that is positioned for long term success. Our client has a
good
executive team, an evolving corporate strategy and an
excellent
reputation and brand awareness factor with its customers.
In
comparison to other companies in their sector they have a
good
story to tell and are optimistic about their future
success.
Missing from our client's executive team is a strong Senior
Vice
President, Operations who can be a valued member of the
team
running the company and lead the manufacturing, materials
and
purchasing functions. The new SVP, Operations will also
provide
the company with options for a future role in general
management.
There is an incumbent in the position that is not aware of
this
recruitment. As a result, Heidrick & Struggles is
conducting this
search on a confidential basis and will give prospective
candidates
the company's name after they are initially screened and
have
signed a non-disclosure agreement.
Company, Position & Person Profile Confidential 3
The Position
The Senior Vice President, Operations will report directly
to the
Chief Executive Officer. Direct reports include four
Operations
General Managers, the Vice President, Materials and the
Director
of Purchasing. Indirect reports include functional staffs
for
operations and purchasing.
Essentially, our client is looking for a high caliber
operations
executive who is well-trained, knows how to make money and
is a
good leader with potential for growth. In the next several
years
the new Senior Vice President, Operations will help our
client to:
solidify its corporate strategy; develop the manufacturing
strategy
that supports the corporation; continue the company's lean
transformation which may involve plant closures but will
clearly
entail a new operations culture for the company; assess the
existing management talent and ensure that they have a core
team
around which to build their future.
Executives looking for a performance-based environment
where
they can be impactful, work closely with a small group of
engaged,
talented, inspired and ethical executives and have an
opportunity
for advancement to general management will enjoy this
company.
The remainder of this document was written by the company's
chief executive who has a clear vision of what he is
looking for in
his Senior Vice President, Operations. While Heidrick &

has lots of experience writing position specifications we
saw no
reason to change the clients’ words in this case.
